The buggy choke in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a recent variation of a triangle choke where you are trapped underneath your opponent in side-control. As your opponent in a typical side-control leaves their head and arm on one side of your body, it allows you to grip your own leg over their head and arm to effect a similar "blood choke" to a triangle choke even in this precarious position.
