Butt scoot

Butt scoot

The butt scoot in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a movement where you use your legs and arms to prop your butt off of the ground just enough that you can move it, generally forwards or backwards, but even side to side. This is a generally useful way to move on the ground, that allows you to make space from an aggressive opponent, re-engage a fleeing opponent, or side-step. Unlike shrimping or the upa, which are performed when lying on the ground, the butt scoot is done while sitting.
