Gable grip

Gable grip

A grip where the palms are clasped together without interlacing the thumbs which is used for a variety of holds in various forms of wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The name is attributed to the American Olympic wrestler Dan Gable, who popularized the use of the grip in competition. It allows an extremely strong squeeze bringing the hands even closer and more strongly to the body than if the thumbs were interlaced.
