Guard
A guard position in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is where you rely on your legs or body position to hamper and opponent who would normally otherwise be in a dominant position over you. Due to the restricting the opponent, however, a guard position turns what might normally be an inferior position into a dominant position. For example, a "closed guard" position where you have your legs wrapped around your opponent's torso turn what might normally be an inferior position, your opponent laying all their weight on top of you, into a dominant position due to the extensive control of their hips, spine, and shoulders it achieves.
