Jujutsu

Jujutsu

The older Japanese term "Jujutsu" combines "ju", meaning soft or gentle, with "jutsu", meaning a skill or method. This contrasts with the term "Judo", which combines the suffix "do", meaning an art or a way, which was introduced by Jigoro Kano for his modern martial art. The older term "Jujutsu" was later transliterated into Portugese as "Jiu-Jitsu" when Judo practitioners brought the art to Brazil.
