Kimura

Kimura

The Kimura is a submission in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu named after Masahiko Kimura, who used the technique, known in Judo as "gyaku ude-garami", or reverse double wrist-lock, to break Helio Gracie's arm in an exhibition match in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1951. The technique consists of grabbing the opponents wrist with one of your hands, and overhooking the opponent's same arm and grabbing your own wrist with your other hand, fixing the opponent's torso and levering their arm at the shoulder joint behind their back.

Rather than just referring to a technique, it can also refer to a Kimura grip in BJJ, which uses the same gripping strategy as in the shoulder lock, but applies the grip to a number of other techniques such as wrist locks, biceps slicers, arm bars, and more.
