Mount control

Mount control

Mount control, top mount, or just mount, is a fundamental position in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu where one sits on top of an opponent whose back is to the ground with ones own knees both touching the ground near the opponents waist and hips. This position renders the opponent stuck on the bottom unable to use his hips and legs as effectively by essentially creating a wall (that is you) between the top half and lower half of his body, and also by applying your own body weight and legs to constrain his hips so that he can not effectively use his hips for escaping.

Mount is one of the most versatile (for the top position) and dangerous (for the opponent stuck underneath) positions in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is an essential part of its strategy of pinning the opponent.

Mount has many variations that mainly consist of where the knees are placed, such as higher near the ribcage or armpits, or with one knee up to create a position known as S-mount, or even facing backward towards the legging leading to a reverse mount.
