Posting
Posting is when you use a mostly straight arm or leg like a post to support weight, either your own weight off of the ground or an opponent below you, or to keep an opponent above you off of you. Unlike framing, where you use the blades of the bones as a contact surface, posting generally refers to making a narrower contact like your hands or feet against something to support weight.
Due to the fact that posting channels forces in a straight-line through the elbow or knee while contacting through a very narrow point like the hand or foot, it is generally regarded as a dangerous habit that can lead to many injuries like stubbed fingers and toes, hyper-extension or breaks of the elbow and knee, and even injuries to the shoulder or hip from having to cushion force transmitted directly to those joints. Posting is especially dangerous if used as a habitual or panicked attempt to stop yourself from falling, where your joints are not well-prepared to cushion the shock involved during the fall.
Posting also tends to isolate your arms and legs from the body leaving them open to attack from an opponent such as for arm-bars or leg locks.
Posting is still extremely useful when done selectively to maintain balance and control, but must be done carefully with good control, timing, and expectations to avoid risks.
Generally, framing with bent elbows and knees is safer and more effective.
