Side control

Side control

Side control, also known as side mount, is a control position in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu where one lays across one's opponents chest, with their knees close to the hips and shoulders of the opponent on one side, with an arm underhook the neck of the opponent, and an arm underhooking the far arm of the opponent, with hands clasped, and chest-to-chest pressure downward. The shoulder is also used to effect a cross-face effect of turning the opponents head while the knees, arms, and chest box in the opponents shoulders, hips, and torso.

It is a fundamental and essential control position in Brazilian-Jiujitsu that can serve as a platform for submissions as well as transitions to other control positions such as mount control, scarf hold, and more.
