The Ultimate Fighting Champion, or UFC, founded in 1993, was a fighting promotion inspired by the Gracie family's experiences with Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in Vale Tudo matches in Brazil. It's goal was to prove the superiority of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu over other martial arts. Famously, Royce Gracie represented Gracie Jiu-Jitsu within the early UFC events and emerging victorious, rocketing Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to world-wide fame.
